This is Volunteers' Week! We are meeting some of our emergency volunteers each day this week to find out what they’re doing, and why they do it.

Ged and Cath Ball are volunteering for the foodbank in Oldham.

Why have you chosen to volunteer?

Always intended on volunteering with the foodbank when we retired. Now we’ve started due to the current situation. I am enjoying the driving role, and driving with my wife.

(Wife has also done some of the picking and packing)

How have you approached the tasks?

We have enjoyed driving around with each other, making the deliveries. We enjoy working with the warm and friendly staff at the foodbank.

Has anything surprised you/ have you learnt anything new about yourselves or your community whilst volunteering?

The number of thanks you get from people when you are delivering to them.

What would you say to someone looking to help out during this time?

Do it, you will enjoy it. It is a nice atmosphere when at the foodbank, staff are lovely, welcoming and friendly!
