UK Youth – Adventures Away from Home Fund

Aims/priorities:

This fund aims to provide 8,500 young people, aged 11-18, or up to 25 for those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), with opportunities to take part in outdoor learning.

Funding will enable underrepresented young people to take part in outdoor learning experiences (full-day sessions and two-night residential stays) that support their personal development through connections with others and nature.

Funding is for projects and activities that are linked to the following outcomes:

  • Increased enjoyment of the outdoors for young people underrepresented in outdoor learning experiences.
  • Improvements in participating young people’s socio-economic skills, equipping them to foster positive relationships, experience good health and well-being, and succeed in education.
  • Improvements in participating youth practitioners’ understanding of the advantages of engaging in outdoor learning opportunities.

Funding is for projects and activities that follow the ethos of experiential learning, inclusivity, respect for the natural environment, promoting courage and curiosity, and celebrating participation.

Who can apply:

  • Charity and not-for-profit outdoor learning providers.
  • City farms.
  • Arts or environmental-based organisations whose primary purpose is the delivery of outdoor learning or learning outdoors using the natural environment.

Groups must:

  • Be based, and the project delivered, in England.
  • Be a charitable or not-for-profit organisation that can provide a governing document (if requested).
  • Can demonstrate previous delivery experience that benefitted young people.
  • Have been in operation for at least two years.
  • Be able to demonstrate safe working practices and provide a safe space for young people.
  • Hold public liability and indemnity insurance of no less than £5 million.
  • Comply with the Equality Act (2010), the General Data Protection Regulation (2018), the Data Protection Act (2018), the Public Services Act (2012), and all other relevant statutory or regulatory requirements.

Grant amount:

A total of £1.5 million is available.

There is no maximum or minimum amount that can be applied for. However, preference will be given to organisations that can demonstrate that they have the capacity and capability to achieve their funding request.

Deadline:

The deadline for applications is 11 December 2023 (noon).

Successful applicants will receive confirmation of any funding awarded by 18 December 2023.
