Innovation and Change Workshop

Greater Manchester partners are hosting an Innovation and Change workshop to identify city-region actions that will push Greater Manchester towards a sustainable food future, tackling food poverty without increasing reliance on surplus/waste food.

Who is invited: We know the food system is complex and there is no simple solution to the problems that we face. Bringing people together who have different perspectives (food industry, residents, community and voluntary organisations, public sector) will enable us to innovate for change.

We have 4 hours to think creatively about Greater Manchester – what makes our city-region different? How can we be ahead of the curve? What opportunities do we have to increase sustainable, local, ethical food production and consumption? How can we ensure good food provision for certain groups of people at specific times of need e.g. children during school holidays? What opportunities do we have to lift people out of food poverty in a permanent and meaningful way?

By the end of the workshop we will identify a series of priorities and potential actions, both short term and long term that will:

•       Support Food Banks and Clubs to provide Good Food and wrap-around support, addressing the underlying causes of food poverty and eventually reducing reliance on surplus food redistribution

•       Increase access to Good Food for children and young people especially outside school term times (a future event will look at provision during term times)

•       Increase sustainable food in Greater Manchester and stop avoidable food waste in the first place.
