Mossley SOUP #10

This February will see the tenth Mossley SOUP community crowdfunding dinner in support of local projects that benefit the town.

The Mossley SOUP organisers are appealing for local residents to support, attend and cast their vote at the evening event on Thursday 27 February. The initiative aims to bring the community together to promote, fundraise and support local projects that benefit the people of Mossley.

For a donation of £5, diners receive freshly made soup, bread, hear four project presentations and then vote for their favourite idea. Each presenter has four minutes to share their idea and an opportunity to answer four questions from the audience. The project idea to secure the most votes receives all of the money raised on the night to carry out their project.

Past Mossley SOUP dinners have raised between £545 and £1,726 for each of the winning projects. All of the projects that have been presented at Mossley SOUP have benefitted in some way. This includes increased public awareness, new volunteers, donations of materials and other financial support.

The tenth Mossley SOUP dinner, sponsored by Tameside Rotary, will take place on Thursday 27 February from 6.15pm at Emmaus Mossley, Longlands Mill, Queen Street, Mossley, OL5 9AH. As well as the four short presentations, the event will also include guest speakers, live music and a fundraising raffle.

Mossley SOUP is organised by volunteers with support from local businesses and organisations. For more details on the next event visit http://bit.ly/MossleySOUP.

Homelessness charity to pilot new ideas with The Big Lunch

The Big Lunch is coming to Tameside on Friday 28 February to pilot their communal lunch concept within a charity setting.

Homelessness charity Emmaus Mossley is teaming up with The Big Lunch to host the shared lunch to inspire individuals and other charities. Everyone is invited to attend, bring a dish to share and learn about creative ways to host their own Big Lunch this June.

Every year, The Big Lunch brings millions of people together right across the UK to share friendship, food and fun. The idea is simple - everyone is invited, anyone can join in and whatever food people bring to the table is there to be shared.

Lindsey Brummitt, Programme Director at The Big Lunch, said: “Together with Emmaus we’re cooking up lots of tasty new ideas to help inspire more people to tuck into The Big Lunch on 6-7 June! The pilot will help us show that for every space and setting there’s a version of The Big Lunch that will work for you.”

Across the UK as a whole, over 6 million people take part in The Big Lunch each year with more than 4.5 million new connections made last year alone. Big Lunch events take place on the first weekend in June every year and is about people sitting down to eat, drink and chat with their neighbours.

Alison Hill, Director of Emmaus Mossley, said: “We’re very excited to be partnering with The Big Lunch this February. Our companions, volunteers and staff have a communal lunch every day, so it’s great that we’re able to extend this idea out to the wider community.

“We’re aiming to bring a few new ideas to the table that will hopefully give people the recipe for success for their own Big Lunch events. From sourcing pre-loved plates and cutlery, to upcycling fabric into bunting, there are many ways to make your Big Lunch greener and more colourful.”

The Big Lunch will take place on Friday 28 February from 12pm to 2:30pm at Emmaus Mossley, Longlands Mill, Queen Street, Mossley, OL5 9AH. No prior booking is needed, just turn up on the day and bring some food to share.
