Maintenance Volunteer

The Canal & River Trust are the national waterway and wellbeing charity who care for over 2000 miles of canal across the country. This role will support the canal bank staff team in the delivery of maintenance jobs, including PPMs (pre-planned maintenance) on the Rochdale, Ashton and Huddersfield Narrow canal. This role will help keep our canals in great condition from clearing weirs, culverts to checking water levels and keeping our locks in good working order. Working within the team you will be based from our Grove Road depot in Stalybridge or across the canal network. Your support will contribute to the care and protection of a canal network which is around 200 years old.

Tasks the volunteer will be required to do:

Checking water levels, keeping weirs and culverts clear, maintaining our locks, vegetation management, towpath repairs, painting, working alongside other like-minded volunteers and staff.

Skill and Qualifications Required:

Skills required - the maintenance volunteer roles would suit those who are mechanically minded, interested in DIY and with an ability to apply practical skills in an outdoor setting. This volunteer role is a fun rewarding role with a chance to explore our amazing canal network and meet like-minded people.
You may like to bring outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear.
