Social Prescribing Day | ARCC

14 March 2024 marks Social Prescribing Day, a time to celebrate Social Prescribing and the thousands of local voluntary groups, activities and services supporting people’s health and wellbeing.

Adult Referral Contact Center (ARCC) serves as the front door of statutory services in Adult Social Care, and works closely with residents and partner agencies.

James Mark-Bell from ARCC shared,

"Oldham Social Prescribing are a key support service that work alongside ourselves to promote the wellbeing of our residents.

The Social Prescribers that we work with get the most important basics right, compassion, empathy and a person centre approach to walking hand in hand alongside residents with the challenges of daily living that can arise in these difficult times. They are our community experts that support the residents to re-connect with the great resources we have in our community.

As the front door of Adult Social Care, we respond to a range of situations for those residents whose wellbeing may be being impacted. This can range from just a chat and advice, to supporting with urgent care plans. Social prescribing supports ourselves to promote the holistic wellbeing of residents that we encounter."

Additional team members from ARCC shared;

“What can I say about the Social Prescribing service? I have personally been using the SP service for a while and It has always been a good service to refer to. However since Gemma has been on the team she is now invaluable with a wealth of information on service that I was not aware of previously."

"Oldham Social Prescribing attend the morning meeting and keep the team updated on any changes or issues they have with the people they are working with. This enables for a quick response and prevents it becoming a crisis. Referrals are quick and easy and they are able to allocate the case quickly again preventing a crisis. Since Oldham Social Prescribing have been as involved as they are with the ARCC, I have seen the difference that is has made in terms of preventative work. Also, the people I have spoken to who are under or have been under the service are complementary of them. I have never had anyone says they did not want to be referred back to them. SP service always try their best to get positive outcomes for their service users and they look at other alternatives that may be required."

"I know I should not say this but Oldham Social Prescribing are my favourite team to refer to due to the outcomes they are able to achieve for their service users."

"I also would like to add that having them on the team has improved my own skills and awareness. “

"Keep up the great work”

“I work alongside with Oldham Social Prescribing who are very helpful and knowledgeable and shares information and resources on a regular basis with the ARCC team which is of great benefit to us as Customer Support Officers as we can promote and encourage residents on to contact them on a strength-based approach and speak with the services available to them in the Oldham area which promotes their independence “
