The Oldham Community Lottery is fantastic fundraising channel, which voluntary and community organisations based in Oldham have been taking advantage of through registering as a 'Good Cause', allowing supporters to give regularly and with ease!
Supporters who sign up to play the Oldham Community Lottery are given the opportunity to select which registered Good Causes they would like to support, and these organisations receive proceeds from the ticket sales. Players are also given the chance to win incredible prizes each week!
Since launching in July 2023, the Oldham Community Lottery has had 56 organisations register as Good Causes, one of which being Firwood and District Residents Association.
FADRA was formed in 2008 at the North Chadderton Estate by people who felt that there was a need for a community group to organise and arrange activities for the benefit of all residents. At the time there were no public spaces or facilities that could help to create a community and bring residents together.
Since joining the Oldham Community Lottery in July 2023, FADRA have raised £358.50! (Figure dated February 2024)
We caught up with Graham Taylor from FADRA to share their experience of the Oldham Community Lottery and how the funds have been used to support them.
"I helped to set up a similar lottery, operated by Action Together, at a local primary school as part of the PTA group that I was involved with. I knew it worked there so recommended it to our FADRA committee.
We are saving the funds raised so that we can use them to set up an activities day in our Community Woodland during the Easter holidays. This day would celebrate the opening of our new Wildlife Biodiverse Pond when we will bring in a professional to organise a pond dipping experience alongside some other outdoor nature related experience. We will be inviting the Mayor of Oldham to officially open the new pond and event."
The Oldham Community Lottery encourages volunteer and community organisations based within Oldham to register to become a 'Good Cause', and raise vital funds through incentivised giving today!
"It was quite easy to set up. From memory, we had to apply then soon after we completed our registration along with our bank details and a short story about FADRA. Then we became one of the good causes in Oldham. We then told all our residents about our involvement and how we would receive 50p from every ticket played. We continue to regularly promote our involvement in the Oldham Community Lottery via our Facebook page.
To other organisations thinking about becoming a good cause...It's a no brainer! It doesn't cost anything. Your good cause is promoted via the lottery with little input from yourselves. It elevates the status of your cause as being part of something bigger in Oldham."
