Life Skills Centre
Making a difference supports people who suffer mental distress. We encourage involvement in many different activities to encourage and develop confidence and self worth, purpose and hope. The life skills centre on Stamford street consists of 4 work rooms where members participate in a range of creative and practical activities. Alongside the workrooms is a café in which those who have gained their food hygiene certificate gain barista skills, customer carer and in our training kitchen learn baking skills, making cakes to sell in the café. In Droylsden we have an allotment with 10 beds in which we grow vegetables and fruit to cook in skills centre for members. We have a green house in our atrium a the rear of our building in which we grow plants to sell. One member makes bedding boxes or other wooden items to sell. The members create items in our sewing room, cards, jewelry and many crafts to sell, this pays for their attendance, whilst also build confidence once sold. About the host organisation
Hosted by: Making a Difference - TamesideOrganisation Profile:We are a mental health rehabilitation skills centre. We offer support to people who have suffered long term and short term with anxiety and depression. By using many different activities we enable people to develop the necessary life skills, either practical, educational, social and emotional. Encouraging teamwork is a major part of skills development, working together helps learn the skills in planning, organising, relationships and managing conflict that can occur. We collectively discuss and plan cafe events, daytrips, social events, film nights, barbeques, we believe this to be a major part of a persons preparation for work, either voluntary or paid. All this takes place at the Skills Centre or support in the community . Tuesday - Friday.
