Boat Crew Volunteers for Public Trips

Join the friendly team of volunteers at Tameside Canal Boat Trust based at Portland Basin in Ashton. This is a volunteer role where you can gain lots of new skills and experience. Volunteers will be required to help operate Public Boat Trips for visitors to Portland Basin Museum, working on board Narrowboat StillWaters. The trips take place every hour between 12pm & 4pm and each trip lasts around 45 minutes,

Tasks the volunteer will be required to do:

Volunteers will assist with boat trips enquiries, assist passengers on & off the boat, tie up the boat to the wharf, assisting Wheelchairs onto the boat using the boats Wheelchair Access lift, take passengers fares, answer any questions passengers might have, explain about the history of Donkey Stones & Donkey Stones Wharf - basic information will be given for Crew members learn.
This position is very much customer service focused and so the right volunteers would have to be comfortable working with members of the public including children, also volunteers must be happy to work outside in all weathers, but most of the time you will be inside boat, the boat trips can carry up to 51 people at one time, so can be very busy. The boat Trips are Dog Friendly.
