Ancora Volunteer

Are you passionate about helping people in need? The Ancora Project is a collaboration set up between KeyRing, Christians Against Poverty (CAP) and Oldham Foodbank. The project commenced on 1st August 2016 and is funded by the Big Lottery for five years. The aims of the project are:- To provide immediate help and ongoing support to the people of Oldham who are experiencing crisis. To identify people who are at risk of experiencing hardship and offer support so they are better able to plan for the future. To identify the underlying causes of hardship, tackling these issues and sharing learning at a local and national.

Tasks the volunteer will be required to do:

Role description:
• Support Ancora Project Worker at Foodbank
• Support and engage with Ancora beneficiaries that may visit foodbank
• Assist in making calls to relevant partner agencies that may be able to support
• Assist in making benefit applications online or in person
• Encourage beneficiaries to plan a journey out of poverty

Key Skills - ability to:
• Be part of a team and support other team members
• Actively listen to beneficiaries concerns and issues and offer advice and emotional support
• Keep any information about participants confidential
• Relate to other people

Personal Attributes
• Enthusiasm and a willing attitude

• An interest in issues relating to poverty
• Interest in supporting people from diverse backgrounds

Training / Induction
• Induction to the service and how the project came about
• Support to undertake tasks specified in role description
• Adult Safeguarding Training and any other training available to compliment and support the role
