Dementia Buddy Volunteer

Volunteering can mean something different to everyone, for some it's the chance to give something back to the community. make a difference to peoples lives, learn new skills, to be around like minded people or just a fun thing to do with your spare time. At Age UK Tameside we believe volunteering gives our work added value, as it means we can support more older people in need of our service.

Tasks the volunteer will be required to do:

You will train to be a dementia buddy, supporting older people who attend our 131 Club and those who need broader support by:
- Being a friendly face to welcome people affected by dementia to Age UK Tameside groups and activities
- Chatting to people living with dementia at these groups/activities so carers can tap into important peer support
- Supporting people affected by dementia to attend groups in their community
- Going out into the community and into the client's house to assist with day to day tasks
- Being a friendly face to welcome people when they arrive at the 131 Club
- Encouraging 131 Club clients to join in with conversations and activities
- Providing mobility assistance for 131 Club clients who need it
