Tameside Arts' Gaming Club has been a great success, proving to be their most successful after-school club with over twenty youth members.

Action Together supported the club with a Community Wellbeing Microgrant. The fund provides grants of up to £1,000 to support projects or activities delivered by Tameside and Glossop based Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise groups that:

  • can improve the wellbeing of local people. This can include improving health and wellbeing, tackling poverty or reducing inequality
  • are delivered for a community of place, interest, or identity in one or more neighbourhoods

With the grant Tameside Arts were able to invest in the latest game consoles, equipment, and games, all of which have been voted upon and chosen by members.

The Gaming Club's most popular set up has been the Xbox in Tameside Arts' drama studio, which along with stage lights and projector screen has become the main social hub for young members.

Gaming Club leader Steve said:

"What I enjoy most about the Club is how it brings all the members together and gives them the opportunity to make friends through a common ground. It allows our members to come together, use their knowledge and have fun and experience competitive play in a warm, safe environment. Thanks Action Together for the funding and support."

James from the Gaming Club said:

“As one of the older members of the Gaming Club I like to help out with the younger members of the group, showing them how to play the games and helping the staff with the set up. I think the gaming club is really good and is up to date, but I think we need even more options for games!”

The Gaming Club is:

  • Age 7+: every Friday, 3:30pm-6:30pm
  • Age 16+: every Wednesday, 3:30pm-6:30pm
  • £5 (includes food & drink)
