Safer Recruitment

Course time:                     9.30 am – 3.30 pm
Course duration:               1 day
Course presenter:             Colette Morris – LADO

Aim

On 11th January 2005, the Government published its response to the independent inquiry into child protection matters led by Sir Michael Bichard in relation to the Soham murders. Of the 31 recommendations made by the enquiry, those specifically aimed at the education sector concerning safer recruitment included.

Recommendation 16 - Head teachers and school governors should receive training on how to ensure that interviews to appoint staff reflect the importance of safeguarding children

Recommendation 17 – From a date to be agreed no interview panel to appoint staff working in school should be convened, without at least one member being properly trained.

THIS TRAINING IS NOW RECOMMENDED AS A REQUIREMENT FOR ALL OF THE CHILDREN’S WORKFORCE

Learning Outcomes

To promote safer recruitment practices in all sectors working with children and young people

Target Audience 

Any persons from the statutory or voluntary sector directly involved in/responsible for the recruitment and selection process.

 

Raising Awareness of “so called Honour Based Violence”

Course time:                 9.00 am – 1.00 pm 

Course duration:          4 hours

Course presenter:        Members of the LSCB Training Pool 

Learning outcomes

  • Updated guidance on legislation
  • An understanding of definitions, insight into why HBV occurs and how best to safeguard victims 
  • Information about the dos and don’ts when dealing with HBV
  • Information on how to spot the potential signs of a force marriage and the “one chance “rule
  • Define the term Female Genital Mutilation and examine key risk indicators
  • Knowledge of local and national services
  • Clear guidance on what to do if you suspect that a child is at risk of FM/FGM

Anyone needing insight into this form of abuse.
