LGBT+ History Month: events in Oldham

The Proud Trust has an exciting set of events coming up over February and beyond in Oldham to celebrate LGBT+ History Month. So if you and your colleagues have been wondering how to celebrate the month, improve upon your LGBT+ work and/or connect with LGBT+ communities in and beyond Oldham, these are the perfect opportunities.

LGBT+ History Month Showcase

Join the LGBT+ youth group, Youth Out In Oldham, for a showcase of some artwork it has been making, alongside activities, refreshments,and a chance for attendees to mingle.

When: 5-7pm, Tuesday 25 February

Where: Gallery Oldham

Who: young people, professionals who work with young people, and adults accompanying young people

Professionals LGBT+ History Month event

The session will be an opportunity to hear about the work it is doing in Oldham and across Greater Manchester, explore some of the resources for working with young people and participate in some exercises from the safer person project toolkit.

The event is free runs 3pm-4.45pm on Tuesday 25 February at Gallery Oldham with refreshments provided. If you are interested then please contact cath.hayes@theproudtrust.org.

Alongside those, the Proud Trust has multi-agency training in March and a young LGBT+ people of colour (BAME) group in Rochdale. Details below.

Multi Agency Training

On Monday 16 March it is are offering a full days training 

The course is "working with gender variant and non-binary young people" and is free for anyone working in Oldham. The day wiil provide 

  • An in depth exploration of gender and identity
  • Explore and challenge myths and misrepresentation
  • Examine the legal framework and obligations required for services to meet the needs of trans gender variant and non-binary young people
  • Offer appropriate signposting to organisations for support

Fusion: LGBT+ young people of colour (BAME LGBT+ young people) group in Rochdale

It is running a pilot meeting at Rochdale Connections Trust on the 2nd Monday of each month, 4:30 - 6:30pm

Fusion in Rochdale is back this Monday 10 February. As it's LGBT History Month we will be uncovering histories of LGBT people of colour throughout history and the now. 

Rochdale Fusion is a chilled space for LGBT young people of colour to explore and celebrate identity!
