Action Together, and partners, are in the process of carrying out doorstep discussions with residents across Oldham. The aim of this engagement process is to understand what the community is doing to keep themselves safe during this pandemic and to ensure that the message about how the virus spreads and what we can do to keep ourselves safe is firmly set in our minds.

Not only are we relying on staff we are relying on a great team of volunteers to come along and have those discussions with us. We’ve had a chat with Volunteer Chris Mills to find out more about his role with the Doorstep Engagement team...

Chris started volunteering at the Oldham Foodbank at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. He wanted to be able do something positive and productive that would contribute to helping with some of the difficulties people were experiencing during this time. Chris started off as a picker and packer and delivery driver for the Foodbank, supporting them to cope with the increased demand for their services. He recently moved onto Doorstep Engagement when Action Together did a shout out for more volunteers to help with the Doorstep discussions.

Chris has enjoyed working at the foodbank and particularly enjoyed meeting people. He hasn’t lived in Oldham for long but volunteering with the Doorstep Engagement Team has been a great way to get to know the area and meet even more people. Chris would like to thank the Action Together Volunteer Team, and give a shout out to Uzma and Alisha for their helpful and responsive support, especially as they've had the challenge of working remotely!

Since we went into the nationwide-lockdown in March, Action Together has been supporting a team of emergency response volunteers who are continuing to support the work of Oldham Foodbank, as well as supporting the doorstep engagement activities. Action Together would like to share an enormous thank you to all the volunteers who have been involved in Covid-19 response activities in Oldham. Their hard work, time and enthusiasm has helped Action Together, and our partners across Oldham, to reach and support more residents.
