Help Us, Help You - mental health

On 17th January, NHS England and NHS Improvement launched a campaign to promote NHS mental health services, encouraging anyone experiencing feelings such as anxiety, depression or other common mental health concerns to seek help through NHS Talking Therapies (also known as IAPT- Improved Access to Psychological Therapies).

Talking Therapies can be offered in a number of ways including a self-help workbook with therapist support, as an online course, over the phone, one to one or in a group. Appointments with therapists are conducted in confidence and help is available in-person, by video consultation, telephone and interactive text.

Beating bowel cancer together

Some people feel anxious or worried when they're told they need a colonoscopy but it's important to have this test if you're referred.

If you've been asked by your doctor to have a colonoscopy it's because they suspect something isn't quite right about your bowel or colon, and they'd like a specialist to take a closer look.

Most people who have a colonoscopy won’t have bowel cancer. But, if bowel cancer is detected at its earliest stage nearly everybody is treated successfully. To find out more, see www.bowelcanceruk.org.uk/about-bowel-cancer/diagnosis/hospital-tests/going-for-a-colonoscopy/

PANORAMIC study

The PANORAMIC study is investigating if new antiviral treatments for COVID-19 in the community can reduce the need for hospital admission and help people to get better sooner at home. The nationwide study, funded by the National Institute for Health Research, is recruiting volunteers in Greater Manchester to take part in the study through the PANORAMIC website https://www.panoramictrial.org/. More information is available on the website.

To be eligible, people need to be currently experiencing COVID-19 symptoms that started in the last five days, have a positive PCR test for COVID-19, be aged 50 or over, or aged 18 and over with a listed pre-existing condition.

COVID-19

For up-to-date information about the latest rules and guidance see www.tameside.gov.uk/coronavirus
