Healthwatch Tameside Board

We have some vacancies on the Healthwatch Tameside board.

If you are interested in this volunteering opportunity, and want to find out more, please get in touch with us. We will send details of what the role is about, and what is expected of our board members. If you have any questions, we would be happy to chat to you about them. Phone 0161 667 2526.

We asked one of our current board members to tell us a bit about their experience.

“I became a Board member having been reassured that medical knowledge was not necessary - it was more important to have life experience and skills in order to 'fight the corner' and 'keep a watchful eye' on behalf of those using health and social care. I feel as a Board member, I can help to ensure that people are heard.

There are, quite rightly, responsibilities being a Board member, but with the support and skills of my fellow board members and the manager and staff of Healthwatch there is much personal satisfaction from my role and I am proud to represent the community in this way.”

Winter Walk and Talks

Winter Walk and talks - Tameside Oldham & Glossop Mind are leading a series of walks. These will start from Stamford Park, Ashton-under-Lyne, and provide a chance for attendees to chat, socialise and connect with others whilst enjoying some gentle exercise in safe outdoor settings.

Walks are planned to be approximately 60-90 minutes, giving the chance for people of all levels of abilities to take part with staff and volunteers available to support every step of the way. For information about dates and times see this leaflet.

Digital healthcare support service

The new Digital Healthcare Support Service delivered by The Bureau in Glossop, in partnership with PC Refurb and their Digital Wellbeing Project is now underway. The goal of the project is to increase the uptake of GP online services and health apps across Tameside and Glossop.

This will enable patients to take control of their own health and healthcare, have a simple and convenient way to access medical services such as appointment bookings, ordering repeat prescriptions and viewing their own medical record, and to manage their health conditions more autonomously.

Volunteer digital champions will work with patients on a one to one basis or in small groups to support them in how to use the apps and resources available – they will also be supporting GP practice staff to become more confident with digital health resources.
