Tameside Community Champions can be anyone who live or work in the community. You might be the person that everyone knows and trusts. You might be someone who just wants to help in whatever way you can - even if this is your first time.

You can support amongst the community as much or as little as you like in a variety of ways from simply passing on information, to having conversations or volunteering your time.

Census 2021 will provide a snapshot of modern society, particularly relevant due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

You will be receiving a letter with a unique access code, allowing you to complete the questionnaire (available in multiple languages) on your computer, phones or tablets. If you prefer a paper questionnaire (also available in multiple languages) can also be sent to you.

Charities and voluntary organisations often use the census as evidence to get funding. It helps businesses to understand their customers. The census also provides important information on population diversity, allowing organisations to know whether they are meeting their responsibilities and triggering action where necessary.

Changes to the Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) scheme, mean that domestic businesses and those who hold a Tameside taxi licence may now be eligible for a one off payment of £1,500.

They are a space to discuss organisational updates you may have, how you are involving volunteers and staying connected to them during this time. There will be an opportunity to meet people from other local organisations, to share ideas and to ask for advice.

Willow Wood Hospice is looking to recruit new volunteers for a number of different roles. Come along to this online information session and find out more about this fantastic Tameside charity, the work they do and the care they provide, and find out how you can get involved and support them as a volunteer.

Action Together is working closely with partners to identify best practice guidance for voluntary, community and faith sector groups to safely operate. As local and national restrictions continue to change we will provide the most up to date information we have available and how these may impact your building, services or activities.

The last year has seen unprecedented changes for the voluntary and charity sector. One year into COVID-19 restrictions, we’re taking the chance to reflect on the challenges local organisations have faced, share the lessons we’ve learnt, and look at how we can use these learnings to plan for your organisation’s future.

This guidance provides some pointers form National Governing Bodies and other sport providers on how to make their sport more accessible to youngLGBT people. It has been written following consultation with young LGBT
people who access the services of LGBT Youth North West.

Due to an increase in volunteers, Being There is able to start taking referrals for their Telephone Befriending service once again.

As part of the Tameside Poverty Truth Commission work, Greater Manchester Poverty Action is hosting a weekly get together for those who are experiencing poverty. The Commission is looking for people who might be interested in becoming grassroot commissioners and share their stories and experiences of living in poverty.

The group meet every Wednesday on Zoom from 11am – 12pm.

Join others involved in tackling homelessness across Greater Manchester. This session is focused on the GM Homelessness Prevention Strategy (GMHPS) which is being developed for the whole city region, including Tameside.

Creativity has been a vital lifeline for many people over the last 12 months as they’ve been forced to spend much more time at home, and especially over the winter. Cultural Services want to explore and celebrate that pandemic-inspired activity through an open exhibition called apART. They’re interested in anything you might have, whether it’s photos you’ve taken, artwork you’ve created or a poem you’ve written. Submissions will become part of an online exhibition to launch on 24 March, which will mark a year since the first lockdown began.

Design Your Own Eco-Street is a new and exciting opportunity from Groundwork Greater Manchester giving communities the chance to win £6,000 funding to transform an unused area into an exciting green space!

Who can apply: Greater Manchester community groups or groups of residents, consisting of at least three people from different households.

Amount: £6,000.

Deadline: Not specified.

Priorities: Tameside groups and organisations are needed to raise awareness and increase reporting of hate crime. 

Who can apply: Voluntary, community, faith, social enterprise organisations who are members of Action Together.

Amount: Up to £1,000.

Deadline: Thursday 1 April.

Priorities: To support the needs of those in poverty in the area of the Parish of the Good Shepherd, Ashton-under-Lyne. 

Who can apply: Community groups who are within the boundary area and are members of Action Together.

Amount: Up to £2,000.

Deadline: Sunday 4 April.

Priorities: To bring together the people who live in Tameside and Glossop who deliver services here.

Who can apply: Voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise organisations who are registered members of Action Together.

Public Health England has launched a new online Psychological First Aid (PFA) training course. The course offers training on how to provide practical and emotional support to children and young people affected by COVID-19, or other emergencies or crisis situations. It aims to equip those completing the training to better identify people that are in distress and provide support to help them feel safe, connected and able to take steps to help themselves.

This popular photography course is heading back to the Tameside Stadium as soon as lockdown restrictions are eased!

The course will be held in the Function Room at Curzon Ashton Football Club each Wednesday, from 10am - 1pm. There are a maximum of 15 places available per course, with each course lasting 12 weeks.
