Engagement across Greater Manchester

Have your say – Which areas of cancer research are important to you?

Between December 2018 – February 2019, the NIHR Manchester Biomedical Research Centre, supported by researchers from The University of Manchester and The Christie, carried out a survey to identify under-researched topics in cancer research that could help detect the disease sooner.

They had over 1300 responses from adult patients, their family and friends, carers, health professionals and academics in Greater Manchester. They have now collated these into 50 research questions which look at different ways to improve care and detect cancer sooner. Each question addresses an area with little or no previous research.

For the next phase of the study, they want your help by choosing 10 of these questions which you feel are the most important. You can do this by clicking the link below and following instructions for the online survey.

The survey closes Sunday 4 August and the most popular questions will be used to draw up a ‘long list’ of 20-30 questions. This will then go to a workshop in September (more details via the link), where they’re inviting patients, families and professionals along to help draw up a final shortlist of 10 unanswered research questions to help inform future cancer research.

The workshop will take place on Wednesday 4 September 2019, 10am – 4pm in Manchester City Centre. If you are interested in participating, you can find out more via the link above, or by contacting Ellena Badrick, Cancer Data Scientist, on ellena.badrick@manchester.ac.uk.
