Watch this space!

In January 2019 the NHS Long Term Plan was published, setting out all the things the NHS wants health services to do better for people across the country. This includes: making it easier for people to access support closer to home and via technology, doing more to help people stay well, and providing better support for people with long-term health conditions.

The Government is investing an extra £20bn a year in the NHS.

Healthwatch England has been commissioned by NHS England and NHS Improvement to make sure people have their say and help shape what the delivery of the plan should look like in their communities.

Healthwatch Tameside will be taking part in this work over the next few months. The feedback we collect will influence:

  • Tameside health and social care plans
  • Greater Manchester health and social care plans
  • National health and social care plans

As soon as everything is finalised, we will be in touch again with the details of how you can have your say.

Partnership Engagement Network (PEN)

PEN Conference February 2019 – over 70 participants gave their views in a series of diverse workshops including Living Life Well (Mental Health), Loneliness, Greater Manchester Moving Local Delivery Pilot, Corporate Plan (Tameside & Glossop Strategic Commission), Building a Social Movement around Community Wellbeing and Social Prescribing and Asset Based Community Development. There was also a PEN development session, the feedback from which will be used to shape the future delivery of PEN events.  A copy of the feedback report from the event can be found on the Tameside Council PEN website

Ovarian cancer month

During March 2019, ovarian cancer charities across the UK are working together to increase awareness of the disease.

More information can be found on their website - Ovarian cancer awareness month

Consultation on single-handed care

Tameside & Glossop Strategic Commission are looking to review their manual handling policies and procedures. A number of areas around the country have championed a procedure known as ‘single handed care’. Evidence suggests that current procedures are out of step with what is required by people receiving care, and many wish to participate in their own care and enjoy the one-to-one relationship that single handed care offers.

More information can be found on the Tameside Council website.

They want to hear your views on the proposal to introduce a single handed care approach. Please tell them your views by completing the survey here. The consultation will close on 28 March 2019.

Advance care planning

My Care, My Way” - Tameside and Glossop’s new Advance Care Planning document to record the discussions with a patient about their wishes for their care if or when their condition changes. This is in partnership with Willow Wood Hospice and NHS Tameside and Glossop CCG. It is envisaged this will be used and recognised by all health and social care professionals who may come into contact with patients.

For more information see the Tameside and Glossop CCG website
