Healthwatch Tameside -  Mental Health Project

Healthwatch Tameside have a new project about mental health care in Tameside.
Report
Our first step was to form a report based on all the information people have given us about their mental health care in Tameside over the last three years. We have then looked in more depth at the information from 2016, to make the report as relevant as possible.
From what people had told us we formed some recommendations for commissioners and providers, in order to improve mental health care locally.     You can see the full report here
Mental Health Event

Following on from the report being published, on 1st April 2017, Healthwatch Tameside held a public event at The Grafton Centre in Hyde.
The event was attended by mental health service users, their families and carers, and representatives of a number of care and service providers.
This was an opportunity for honest round-the-table discussions about a number of mental health related topics, followed by feedback of the key points to the rest of the room.
Have a look at our summary of the key points
How you can help

Tameside Oldham and Glossop MIND -  Youth in Mind

The Hive
Youth in Mind would like to announce their new and exciting venture! The Hive opens its doors on May 3rd on Katherine Street in Ashton-U-Lyne.
This is a great opportunity for Young People between 8 and 18 across the Tameside area.
If you’re feeling down, anxious, stressed, worried, confused or just need someone to speak to, their community of helpers will be available to support you. Come along at any time between 4pm – 8pm on Wednesdays when it’s buzzing in The Hive.
If you are thinking that The Hive might be great place for you or someone you care about, take a look at some of the services available :
Drop in
This service is a 20 minute 1-2-1 appointment that a young person can access to discover what services are available to them and be signed up or signposted to relevant support. This can be used as an offloading space where the young person can “drop in” sporadically to talk to a worker.  We also have bookable time slots available throughout the evening, so you are able to book before you come!
Early Intervention
This service can help Children and Young People with low level mental health such as Anxiety, Low Mood, Stress, Anger and Confidence. The model works via facilitated self-help, where our Early Intervention Practitioners will support the young person with low level CBT and help educate on the condition. These sessions are 1-2-1 and short, brief sessions of 30 minutes for a duration of 5 weeks. You can be referred onto this after attending a Sort it! Drop in.
Counselling
Counselling is a 121 service offered within the Hub hours in one of our therapy rooms. The service offers up to 8 session to a young person where they can explore any issues that are going on for them. The sessions are confidential to the young person, and wouldn’t be discussed with parents/carers without prior consent. Though they do work with carers as much as possible to encourage positive change outside of the sessions. You can be referred onto this after attending a Sort it! Drop in.
Bee Arty
Each week they will be holding an Art Space that Children and Young People are able to attend. Although the maximum number of attendees is 15, young people are able to drop in and out throughout the evening. The space will promote social inclusion, along with encouraging CYP to express their feelings through art, along with learning new skills.
Extra Information
There will be food and drink available for you and your family until 7pm, and a central café area where parents or carers are able to wait. If you are over the age of 13, you are welcome to attend The Hive on your own, however those under 13 will need a parent or carer present.
The Hive will be growing over the next six months, in order to grow efficiently they would love your feedback on new services or activities that you would like to be available. Email office@togmind with your suggestions for the new and improved Hive.

Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) - Have you experienced problems with a care home?

Organising care for yourself or a loved one can be an emotional and costly experience. You should have the information you need and feel confident that the care home you choose treats people fairly. Unfortunately, that's not always the case.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is undertaking a thorough review of the care home sector. It wants to understand common problems faced by care home residents and their families to see if they are being treated fairly.
If you've experienced problems such as hidden costs, unexpected top-up fees, unfair contracts or complaints that weren’t handled properly, the CMA want to hear from you. Your story could make a real difference.
Have you experienced any problems with a care home?
