Being There - Volunteer Information Session
Being There is a small charity providing emotional support and practical assistance to people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, along with those closest to them, such as family, friends and carers.
Being There is working a telephone listening line to offer emotional support to existing and new clients at this difficult time. They match people to a volunteer who will ring on a regular basis.
Covid -19 Listening Line Volunteer
• Have an interest in supporting people with a life limiting illness or a carer
• Make regular telephone calls to your client as arranged by your manager to create an enjoyable and supportive relationship
• Treat what you hear as confidential and sensitive
• Feedback how your calls are going and report any issues or concerns to your manager
Skill and Qualifications Required
• Good conversational and listening skills with a clear speaking voice - some of the older people we support have a
low-level hearing loss
• Patience, empathy and a non-judgemental attitude
• An ability to work independently but also stay within the role’s boundaries – recognising when to seek advice or
report concerns
• Reliability, consistency and dependability
• Able to speak other languages an advantage
• An Enhanced DBS less than 2 years old. **If applicants do not have this Being There can help to apply for a new DBS remotely. (There is no cost to the volunteer).
