Action Together CIO's Third AGM

Registration is closed for this event
You are invited to join us for Action Together CIO’s third AGM.

I hope you have received our recent communication about some exciting changes and plans for Action Together. As one of our members and/or partners we’re contacting you to invite you to our AGM where we will be exploring this further and asking you to vote on an important resolution.

In our recent email we outlined that there are two main changes:

  • We are reorganising our teams to create a dedicated team for each area. One that only works in Oldham or Tameside respectively. Each team will be led by a Strategic Lead, supported by our central and leadership team.
  • We are excited to be working across the borough of Rochdale from 1 February and will be recruiting a dedicated team for Rochdale.

We think this is an important change to make now, and hope you see that the way we are reorganising is designed to ensure we continue to stay locally focussed and prioritise our local connections and relationships. We stay committed to having a local office in each town and none of the support we offer or ways to contact us have changed. There hasn’t been any reduction in the size of the teams working in Oldham and Tameside.

Extending our work to Rochdale is something our trustees have fully explored. We recognise the similarities of the borough and think we can help to strengthen the connections between the voluntary, community, faith sector and other public and private bodies that work in the borough. We believe that three localities are the optimal size for Action Together and we are not seeking to work in other boroughs. We remain committed to working with our colleagues across 10GM to highlight the need for good local infrastructure in every place.

We believe that the VCFSE in the areas that we work should govern our work, therefore we are proposing a resolution to our members to extend our charitable objects to include the Borough of Rochdale.  We will be taking a vote to support this motion.  This would mean that we will be asking VCFSE groups from Rochdale to become members of Action Together and would in future be able to stand for election.  In the year 2019/20 we would seek to co-opt 2 VCFSE representatives to the Board.

Proposed resolution

That clause 3.1 of the constitution of Action Together CIO is amended to read:

“To promote any charitable purposes for the benefit of the public, principally but not exclusively in the local government areas of Oldham, Tameside and Rochdale and the surrounding area (hereinafter called the “area of benefit” and, in particular, to build the capacity of third sector organisations and provide them with the necessary support, information and services to enable them to pursue or contribute to any charitable purpose.”

During the business of the AGM we will be holding elections for trustees who re-stand after retiring, and those who wish to join Action Together’s Board. We warmly welcome new applications to join the Board.  If you wish to stand for election, please ring 0161 339 2345 and ask for Sam McNicholls or, alternatively, click here to download the nomination form. The deadline for receipt of nominations is Friday 1 March 2019.
