• Sunday Funday

Ages: 8 to 13 Where: WAC in Droylsden What to bring: A towel, change of clothes, spare shoes and a packed lunch. Sunday Funday is a junior youth club for children and young people aged 8 - 13 years. A wide variety of activities take place, including canoeing, water play and adventure, music and art projects, day trips, plus many other exciting things. When canoeing, young people need to wear warm, comfortable clothing and old shoes or trainers that won't fall off their feet. We provide waterproofs and buoyancy aids. We don't have showers but we do have heated changing rooms and facilities for making hot drinks. If you are attending for the first time please call or email us by the Friday before to check that the club isn't due to be closed for any reason. Unfortunately there may not be anyone in the office to pick up a message received over the weekend as our office is only staffed Monday to Friday. On a young person's first visit we will need their parent or legal guardian to complete an annual consent form and confirm that they can swim 25m. Please note that we operate a parent/carer free zone on our Sunday Funday session which means that adults are not permitted to stay on site. If you wish to observe your child settling in, you can do this from a nearby bridge or the bank on the opposite towpath.

    About the host organisation

    Organisation Profile:

The Water Adventure Centre is a vibrant youth centre with a difference. Our exciting activities focus on building confidence and self-esteem, whilst encouraging children and young people to take responsibility for themselves, others and our environment. Young people can attend our youth clubs and if you run a group, we can arrange sessions tailored to your needs. By combining youth work with canoeing we offer a unique experience. To take part in canoeing activities you just need to be over 8 years and able to swim 25 metres (the length of a regular swimming pool). If your child is a non-swimmer through reason of disability please contact us to make further enquiries and to discuss your child's particular needs.
