• Cafe Boat Project

In June 2014, Littleborough Canalside Development Group, now a sub-committee of Littleborough Civic Trust, acquired a small unused narrowboat to use as a Community Project. The group are currently in the process of transforming it into a floating cafe to be located adjacent to the car park on Canal Street, Littleborough; a popular entry/exit point for many canal towpath users. This venture should not be confused with any other potential local cafe project. Generous donations from local businessmen have made the venture even more of a possibility. A degree of bureaucracy is involved with permits/planning etc. An 'in principal approval' has been granted by the Canal & River Trust. The group have also secured planning consent from Rochdale Council. The boat is undergoing refurbishment by local businesses and fitted out as required. The group will eventually need volunteers to run the cafe; trained in basic hygiene skills and in producing appetising fare, to tempt visitors and locals walking the tow path. Hopefully (and possibly) by the end of the summer 2019 we should be up and running. The cafe boat will be an excellent place for local groups to advertise their activities whilst providing a locally run community service. Anyone willing to assist with the refurbishment or with the cafe should use the form in the 'contact' page.
